ECO-CLUB and NSS Unit of GDC Purmandal under the patronage of Worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Raj Shree Dhar organized Nature Walk along river Devika & Cleanliness Drive of a Pond situated in Purmandal area to celebrate “World Wetland Day 2023” to mark the adoption of Ramsar Convention for Conservation of Wetlands. On the occasion Worthy Principal of the college stressed on the importance of Wetlands and also advised the students to make action plans for the conservation and restoration of Wetlands for aesthetics and Wellness aspects. She also emphasized upon involvement of Locals for the Cleanliness of the area. During the visit, while addressing the students Prof. Shahima Akhter (HOD Environmental Sciences & convener ECO-CLUB) threw light upon this year’s theme “It’s Time For Wetlands Restoration”. She highlighted the importance of Wetlands and urgent need of prioritizing Wetland restoration in order to reverse their rapid loss. She further added that lack of conservation of Wetlands can have harmful consequences on aspects like climate change mitigation, water-food security, disaster management etc. A large number of students enthusiastically participated in the drive. Convener Eco-Club, Prof. Shahima Akhter conducted the programme. Prof. Mohammad Rafi (NSS PO), Prof. Deepika Mehra (HOD Dogri), Prof. Lakshmi Sohan (HOD English) & Prof. Minoo Firdoos (PTI) were also present at the event.
