Govt. Degree College, Purmandal successfully organized One Day Webinar on the most relevant topic of the era “Paradigm Shift in Higher Education: A Students Perspective on NEP 2020”. Mr. Rohit Kansal (IAS), Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K was the chief guest on the occasion and Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai was the guest of honor. On the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Ashai spoke at length about the nittygritties of New Education Policy, 2020. During her address she enumerated upon the quality of Education to achieve excellence for which the Higher Institutions must strive and for that it is very important for each and every institution of J&K to adopt the educational reforms so that the teachers as well as the stakeholders can compete with the fast paced ever changing world of technology. In her address to students who are mainly the stakeholders in this academic reforms and motivated them to adopt and follow this great change in the education system so that they can work on their vocational skills and employability. She congratulated and appreciated Principal GDC Purmandal and her dynamic team for always choosing relevant topic for deliberations. She also shared that time and again she discusses and feels proud about GDC Purmandal since the college was established only in 2019 but whereas excellence is concerned the institution always leads from the front and also shared that worthy Principal Secretary Higher Education endorses her views. The first resource person on the occasion was Prof. (Dr.) J.N. Baliya (Head Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu). Prof. J.N. Baliya minutely touched all the nuances of National Educational Policy 2020 with his vast experience in teaching and administration. He enumerated upon that the NEP should turn into equitable and quality education to all. He laid stress on India’s diverse culture and ethos. Keeping into consideration these social, cultural and geographical diversity, India is all set to cope up with European Countries in adopting new reforms and changing in education. He also elaborated upon NEP 2020 as structural change i.e. overall change in students curricula, pedagogy, admission process, evaluation system etc. He further mentioned about the overall change in whole ladder of educational system. While answering to the queries of the students, he informed that no policy is absolute, every policy has its constraints and implications. Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Ashraf (Former Principal GDC Baramulla) was the second resource person of the event. He touched upon the curricular aspects and guidelines. He further elaborated upon that presently every institution is facing hard times in framing curriculum lines and he vastly compared earlier education policy under CBCS courses and New Education Policy 2020. He talked about dechannelization of the stakeholders especially of students from far-flung institutions. He further added that NEP is not a negative policy only its drafting has to be streamlined. Respected Principal of the college Prof. Seema Mir paid gratitude to worthy Principal Secretary, revered Director College and our illuminaries of the occasion Prof. (Dr.) J.N. Balia and Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Ashraf. She also encouraged and motivated her dynamic team. She also laid stress on the orientation of teaching faculty who are heart of the teaching and learning process so that they can make the students understand the changes which are taking place in the new system of education i.e. NEP 2020 and the stakeholders must be satisfied and convinced about the benefits of the said policy. The whole programme was coordinated by Prof. Shahima Akhter (Head Department of Environmental Sciences). Prof. Aditti Bhadwal (HOD Education) conducted the interactive session and Prof. Lakshmi Sohan (HOD English) proposed the formal vote of thanks.
