GDC Purmandal organized series of activities to commemorate Earth Day, 2023 Department of Environmental Sciences, Eco-Club and NSS Unit of GDC Purmandal organized a series of activities viz. Poster making competition, Plantation Drive, Making of models and creation of Selfie point in College Premises with the theme ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future: India’s Motto for G20 Presidency”. The whole programme was conducted under the guidance of Worthy Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Raj Shree Dhar. In her address, she applauded the efforts of the students and motivated them to spread the awareness of Mother Earth Conservation even more amongst their family and friends. A large number of students participated in all the events. The first activity was Plantation Drive which was carried out in the college premises. The Drive was inaugurated by Worthy Principal of the college by planting sapling of Chinar tree (Platanus orientalis). All the faculty members and students participated in the said drive thereby planting saplings of different varieties including medicinal and ornament plants. The second event was Poster Making competition in which more than 10 students from all the three semesters (B.A. Sem - 2nd, 4th & 6th) were participated and painted their thoughts on Nature Conservation. As a part of Earth Day celebrations, a Selfie point was created in the college premises that motivated all to keep the planet Beautiful as ever. Furthermore, different models have also been prepared by the students showing the different Environmental problems and the various ways of reducing the impacts on Mother Earth such as by using various alternative sources of energy. The whole programme was coordinated by Prof. Shahima Akhter (HOD EVS & Convener Eco-Club). Organizing team included Prof. Lakshmi Sohan (HOD English), Prof. Mohammad Rafi (NSS PO) and Prof. Deepika Mehra (HOD Dogri).
