Department of Environmental Sciences of GDC Purmandal organized intracollege bag making competition to commemorate â€œWorld Earth Dayâ€ on 22nd of April, 2022. Students of B.A sem 1st and sem 3rd showcased their creativity and artistic skills by making beautiful cloth and paper bags and they also used different materials to decorate them vibrantly. This competition was devised with a view of bringing awareness and instilling the thought of restoring the environment among students community. The whole event was coordinated by Prof. Shahima Akhter (HOD, EVS). While addressing the student and the staff, HOD EVS Prof. Shahima Akhter passionately laid stress on the importance of saving mother earth. In her address she said that all of us must remember that we are just guests to our mother earth, Our future generation needs our mother nature. She further added that being parents, we always try to keep something reserve for our children that will help them in future. In the same way we have to preserve our mother earth for future of our children. Our planet is an amazing place, but it needs our help to thrive. Prof. Shahima Akhter while talking about extinction of flora and fauna mentioned Asiatic Cheetah, Pink Headed duck and the western black Rhinoceros which are totally extinct from our planet. The whole programme was conducted under the patronage of worthy principal of the college Prof. Seema Mir. Worthy Principal of the college in her address to the students stressed that plastic pollution has destroyed the entire environment and in order to protect and preserve it, one needs to take responsibilities to promote the usage of ecofriendly products for an ecofriendly environment and a better society. She said that the earth day gives us a chance to express our gratitude to mother nature through our actions and words. The participants of the event were adjudged by Prof. Nirlape Kour (HOD Political Science) and Prof. Deepika Mehra (HOD Dogri). First, Second and Third prizes was won by Diya Sharma, Lakshita Sharma and Mohinder Kumar respectively. A cash Prize of rupees 100 was also given to all the participants of the event by worthy Principal of the college. Ms. Aditti Bhadwal (HOD Education) Proposed the formal vote of thanks and the whole event was technically supported Mr. Akshay (Computer Operator) of the college.
