On April 23rd the department of English, Govt. Degree College, Purmandal celebrated the birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, the most famous writer in the English language to mark his birth anniversary, the college organized videography competition on best quote by William Shakespeare. New initiative was taken up by GDC Purmandal by inviting ideas and views of faculty of Jammu division colleges by sending their audio/video clips and it was a proud moment for GDC Purmandal. Faculty of Jammu division colleges enthusiastically send their videos and audios which were shown to the students of the college and department of English made the students to understand a genius like Shakespeare who wrote because way back in 16th and 17th centuries still relevant and significant in this era of technology driven age. Shakespeare has more popular today than he has been at any point since his death four centuries ago. The internet has played a vital role in propagation of William Shakespeare’s writings. You will find him sitting on shelves, bookshops, on laptops, Lapland’s, on stage and in jungle theatres. You will hear his words popup in pop songs being quoted in movies and spoken on the streets. In this age of stress and trauma it is very necessary for each individual to sit and ponder over that the great genius like Shakespeare had written many centuries ago is still thoroughly read and understood. Worthy Principal of the college Prof. Seema Mir spoke at length about the significance of Shakespearean plays like Hamlet, Julius Caeser and Macbeth. The participants read their favorite quotes from Shakespeare’s plays. Head, Department English Prof. Lakshmi Sohan moderated the programme. The participants quoted from hamlet, Julius caeser and Macbeth. Worthy Principal of the college awarded E-certificates, Memento and a cash prize to each participants. E-Certificates were also awarded to the faculty of Jammu Division colleges. The event was evidence of the fact that Shakespeare brings together the people of all ages and also from all walks of life across generation through his simple yet profound thoughts on life and its challenges. The event concluded hoping for a world free of complexities like the title of Shakespeare’s play ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL. The programme was co-coordinated by Prof. Mohd.Rafi from political science department and vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Aditti bhadwal.
