GDC Purmandal department of dogri paid homage to Padam Shri Padma Sachdev Ji on her birth anniversary by organizing singing competition among the students of the college. The programme started with the lighting of lamp by chief guest, Principal and staff of the college. Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Magotra (Former HOD of Physics, Electronics, Computer Sciences, University of Jammu, President Dogri Sanstha Jammu) was the chief guest on the occasion. The students of the college enthusiastically participated in the singing competition and sang the songs composed and written by Padam Shri Padma Sachdev who is a world renowned poetess, writer and artist. She was popularly known as Utterbehni because of her fearless, bold and blunt nature as she grew up in the lap of this sacred place known as Purmandal and was the eldest of three children of Sanskrit scholars Prof. Jai Dev Baru. She made her mark as a popular and legendary poetess and writer in the dogri literary world. Achieving acceptance of her literary works as worthy and competent has been a part of a long struggle and extremely hard in a patriarchal society for her. while addressing students and audience Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Magotra threw light on the life and achievements of Padma Sachdev by narrating her stories, How she managed to cope up with the literary world which was dominated by men folk. He further added a very remarkable coincidence and shared with the students that it is such a pleasant coincidence, that the Principal has joined this institution on 17th of April which coincides with the birth date of Padam Shri Padma Sachdev. Worthy Principal of the college Prof. Seema Mir welcomed the guests and also paid tribute to the mother of dogri literature by singing few lines of a song Tu Malla Tu composed by Padma Sachdev in which she has envoked the feeling of love bond between mother and son. The chief guest was awarded a memento as a token of appreciation. The students were adjudged first, second and third by Prof. Deepika Mehra (HOD Dogri) and Prof. Shahima Akhter (HOD EVS). First, Second and third prizes were won by Ms. Sunaina Jamwal, Samiksha Mehra and Lakshita Sharma respectively. The whole programme was coordinated by Head Department of Dogri Prof. (Dr.) Deepika Mehra and Prof. Shahima Akhter (HOD Environmental Sciences) proposed the formal vote of thanks.
