Week Long activities to celebrate World Environment Day, 2023 Department of Environmental Sciences of Govt. Degree College Purmandal organized different activities to spread awareness regarding Environmental conservation on the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’ under the banner of G20and Mission LiFE. The week long activities included screening of documentary, Awareness Rally, Best out of Waste competition, Pledge taking ceremony and Plantation Drive. The first activity was screening of documentary under the theme “Solutions To Plastic Pollution” held on 31st of May, 2023 in which large number of students were made aware about switching to longer lasting alternatives to single use plastic bags. In the second activity, an awareness rally was organized on 1st of June, 2023 with the theme ‘ Beat the Plastic Pollution’. A pledge taking ceremony was also organized as a part of Mass Mobilization under Mission LiFE. Prof. Shahima Akhter [HOD EVS] administered the LiFE Pledge to the staff and students of the college. Furthermore, a large number of students made very beautiful Art and Craft pieces from waste material like NewsPapers, Old Cloths, Plastic bottles etc. To mark the celebrations of World Environment Day, Plantation Drive was carried out in college premises. The drive was inaugurated by Worthy Principal of the college Prof. [Dr.] Raj Shree Dhar by planting sapling of Psidium guajava [Guava]. All the faculty members participated in the said drive. Worthy Principal of the college in her address said that we must promote conservation of Natural Environment and together we can shape a healthier and sustainable future for all. The whole programme was conducted under the guidance of worthy Principal of the college and coordinated by Prof. Shahima Akhter [HOD EVS & Convener Eco-Club]. Organizing team included Prof. Mohammad Rafi [HOD Political Science] and Prof. Deepika Mehra [ HOD Dogri].
